Anything Good About Aspartame?

Nope.

A reader who posted a comment about my last aspartame blog posted that aspartame is ok for healthy people.  He also said that formaldehyde, formate, and methanol were healthy metabolic byproducts of aspartame.  Anybody can use wikipedia or a quick google search to figure out that these are toxic chemicals.

Here is a link to a website that talks about the dangers of aspartame.  Here is another one that exposes the research saying that aspartame is good for you.  I’m not going to say these websites aren’t bias, because they are.  They do, however, present some important information.

It is also important to note that phenylalanine (an important component of aspartame) is not recommended for children (you’ll see the PKU warning found on artificial sweeteners and soda) because it can cause brain damage.

I guess the important question here is…would you give your children aspartame?
